I am able to review this TV because of the savings Amazon provided over in town pricing on another TV we purchased through them, the Samsung LN-T4069F (you will also notice some cut and paste of the review I did for that TV as many of Samsungs feature set are the same on both TVs). The savings alone on our other purchase made this purchase possible.
I did the mandatory research (as most of you have) before purchasing this TV and am extremely happy with my purchase. Having the LN-T4069F for a bit allowed us to have our faith in Samsung confirmed.
I was worried about the shipping process (and damage horror stories) on this unit as it was shipped UPS (vs. Eagle on the LN-T4069F). However the worries were unfounded. The unit arrived in perfect condition.
The TV is excellent for this category. The picture is awesome in HD. SD does not look very good compared to a CRT, but for a 26", it is not nearly as bad looking as a 40". I am one of those people that refuses to stretch a 4:3 image to widescreen so the size of the 4:3 image was important to me, and on this TV (because I found no specs or mention of this on any web site) the non stretched 4:3 picture is 13" H, 18"W which is 22" Diagonal. This is secondary TV for us, so unlike the need for 120Hz on the LN-T4069F for gaming and watching motorsports, we chose this standard LCD since budget was an issue. Although I have not played video games on it, there is the normal LCD motion blur in fast moving action, to be expected but not as bad as I thought without the 120Hz feature.
The sound is good for TV of this size. You have decent stereo separation, and the TruSurround XT does a nice job. Small speakers like these do have decent sound, nice for built ins, but don't expect any bass.
Cons:
Unless it is a hidden feature that I have yet to find, you cannot custom name your inputs. Even my 27" Panasonic TV purchase in 2000 allowed you to custom name your inputs to whatever you like. On this TV you have only presets choices (such as HD STB, Game, DVD, etc). You can't input things such as Xbox 360, Cox HD Cable and the like. It is hard to believe a feature like this missing, but I won't downgrade the overall score of the TV for something so small that really has no bearing on the quality of build and picture of this unit.
The base does not provide any swivel or adjustments at all, it is a fixed unit.
High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the speakers built into the TV. SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass through hidden side speakers. TruSurround XT audio adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.

I picked up this HDTV and Blue Ray on special from Comp USA = 00. TV has been great so far. Some people complain about the 8ms response speed. But I haven't seen any problems with jitter. I've watched Blue Ray and DVDs. My Dish network DVR in HD. And everything looks great. The menu system is easy to use. But it takes a while to get all of the devices connected and configured properly. We are impressed with the auto-dim feature - this works great on a partly cloudy day where the room brightness varies. The design is a little blocky and has a wide black rim around the screen. Although, the shine is between high gloss and matte black. Overall, I would recommend this to others for the price point, size, and performance.
So far I am pleased with this tv, after owning it for a month. For the money it was a good buy. Picture quality is very good, and the size of the tv fits nicely my needs. The only criticism is with the sound output. Sometimes you have to turn the volume up toward the maximum to hear clearly, but with the headphones this is not a big problem. Easy to use and understand the manual.
Bought this primarily for watching HD movies and playing HD games via Xbox 360. I knew that there would be a bit of lag with it, but I had judged it to be negligible from my experiences with an LG 32" I had. Wasn't a good judging stick. The LG blows away the Bravia in this sense, in all others though, the Bravia comes out on top. Great picture, good color depth, nice and bright when I need it, and HD movies come out crisp and clear. However, the dark side to LCD technology is the lag that shows up when playing fast moving games. The good news, is that for a 32" LCD, it's actually not too bad. Right around 42ms. That can have serious consequences in an FPS style game, but once you get used to it, the lag basically disappears from your brain. Overall a great tv, well worth what I paid for it.
Loved this TV ... But as noted in other reviews sound quality an volume lacking.gave to my daughter who now loves it in her bedroom.i moved up to a LG 22LH20 nice TV but same lack of volume ..now looking into a soundbar speaker setup
Very happy with my decision on the LG 26LG30 - excellent picture and great tuner! I have Comcast as my service provider and I don't use a converter box and this TV's tuner is able to display the HD broadcasts of the local TV stations right from the cable coming out of the wall! I used a Peerless Universal mount (not recommended for this particular model, but that's a whole other story) and ran the wires up through the wall for a nice clean install in a master bedroom. Totally recommend this TV - great value for the price. I looked at everything in the 26" category and by dropping down to a lesser priced product from another manufacturer, the difference in the picture quality was very clear - this one is WORTH paying a little more for without going for a higher end model. Best way to buy a TV is go look at them in the big box stores and then go buy on line - I ended up paying a lot less.
This review is for the Westinghouse 32" LCD TV SKU-32H640G.
The reason I open with that above statement, is that the picture and model number here is of another TV other than the one I also got as a black Friday deal for 6 at Target. I am unsure of how they might have done things this year, but I know in the past Target and other stores have received similarly equipped but completely different models in different stores to cater to the bargain hungry black Friday crowds. Therefore, this review is for the 32H640G, NOT the W3223 pictured above. That said, here's my review:
This being my second HDTV (previous was a 26" Ilo, purchased in 2006 which I have now given to a friend)I was already familiar with the high quality picture these TVs offer. I have been shopping for a while and after much consideration, the Samsung TVs as a whole had impressed me the most, followed by 2 Dynex models and finally, the Westinghouse. So why wait? Well I wasn't in any big hurry, the only real reason for my wanting to get another tv simply because I wanted a slightly bigger picture. Then I heard about the leaked black Friday Target ad. A Westinghouse 32" 720 p tv for only 6? Impossible I figured, from a quality standpoint. It had to be a lower quality model than the one I had seen and compared. When I asked the associate in the electronics dept 2 days before the sale whether or not they might have other Westinghouse Tv's in the back, specifically only for the black Friday event, he said not that he knew of. So I said to him it was probably likely that the one on display was going to be the one on sale. He said "I can't confirm it, but you can pretty much bet on it" 'Yay!' I thought. Then I asked for an even more thorough demonstration than the one I had previously. After all was said and done, I was so impressed with the Westinghouse that I set my alarm clock to be up and at the store by 5 am.
I wasn't disappointed. It was the one on display. And I was one of the very few who got one. (limited supply of only 24 tv's for the sale) Since I got this tv home and set up, I cannot find any major faults with it.
What makes this TV particularly great is the remote and menus. While it is true that I am technologically saavy, even I find myself frustrated with menus and remotes that are ridiculously complicated to operate. (Sony, take note of this for future iterations of your home theater systems, your remotes and menus drive us ABSOLUTELY BONKERS!)I would sacrifice all the extras in the world just to have simplicity in my menu navigation. Luckily, I sacrificed nothing and got my wish. Things that take multiple steps and laborious searching and illogical navigation on other tv's, even on my previous ILO, have been enormously simplified on this Westinghouse. Whatever it is you're looking to do, you can do quickly and logically.
Another great feature is the amount of color depth there is in this tv. Lower end models tend not to utilize the full color spectrum properly, but this tv does that and then some. There is no 'bleed' or ghosting of colors against each other and no 'shadow' of residual colors as scenery changes or people move within frame. Admittedly however, the colors were a bit glaring in their saturation out of the box, but once I navigated through setting up the colors and adjusting the brightness, it truly started operating on a level with Samsung.
As far as the difference between the composite versus hdmi set up, I can tell you that even if you opt for just the composite jacks and not the hdmi, you won't be disappointed. You can see the effort westinghouse has put in with trying to closely duplicate the hdmi experience even in simple composite. (the hdmi here though is quite incredible, impossible to believe it gets much better than this yet I know it does, having seen LED tvs. technology is wonderful!) Some other nice features:
A glowing blue light while on, and orange while off that reflects on the base. The softly sculpted curve of the piano black finished frame and base provides an elegant, high end TV experience.
One tiny flaw is that in highly quick motion, the processor is a tad too slow. This has only happened twice thus far, and since I saw the same flaw in a Samsung on display, I am not going to gripe about such a minor issue. The only time it would be noticed is in a scene where someone is moving exceptionally quicker than normal, and even in action movies, this is not going to be a frequent enough occurrence to cause any concern. Most people probably wouldn't even notice it, but I am meticulous in my TV experience and want to be thorough in my review.
Bottom line here, the Westinghouse 32" LCD TV SKU-32H640G is a truly terrific value in relatively inexpensive LCD Tv's. In fact, it may be the best one out there, period. I will update you on this tv as I experience more time with it.
Special note: Anyone who knows my reviews knows that I am fair and just, and give products true reviews, not only glowing recommendations simply to have a bunch of high ratings. I present honest opinions of the products I buy. I am not employed by or compensated by any company I choose to spend my money with.
I purchased this TV a couple of weeks ago and absolutely love it. We put it on our fireplace mantel, but we were a little concerned that it would be too high to see the picture. Amazingly, the picture looks great, not only while sitting on the couch, but from any angle in the living room. The picture never looks too dark either. I watched The Matrix on it this morning and the picture was beautiful and I could see everything perfectly.
The reason I didn't give this TV 5 stars, is because of the few things that are not included with the TV purchase:
* TV does not come with a stand. You are expected to either mount it on a wall or pay 0+ for the optional stand (which I did).
* TV does not come with cables of any kind. If you think you'll be able to twist in the cable TV cord into the back of the TV like on a regular TV, you can't. On a basic cable box (which does not receive HD channels) you can connect using an S-video connection. If you have an HD cable box, you can use the component video connection. I did not feel like waiting for the cable company to bring out a new HD box, so I connected mine to the TV with the S-video and used the component video for my DVD player.
* TV does not come with speakers. You have to either purchase the optional speakers or you can use speakers you already have and connect them in the connections for the speaker wire.
Nonetheless, it is a fantastic TV and I am very happy with my purchase.
This was my 2nd LCD tv purchase. My first TV was a 32" Samsung purchased in 2006. I decided to upgrade in 2007 from 32" to 46" because 32" was too small for the living room. After 2 years of use, I can say this TV has been great and provided us with many hours of entertainment.
If you are shopping for TVs now (2009) and run across this TV at a really good deal, pick one up. Some advantages to current models is that the standard HDMI inputs are 3-4 whereas this model has only 2. I only use 1 input since I channel everything through a reciever anyways. The newer models are also 10-20 lbs lighter (and even more if you are buying an LED). Lastly, the new models may provide a little better contrast ratio. If buying a used TV, you need to find out how many hours of use the TV has been through and check the condition.
In today's market, the top competitors in the LCD market seem to be Samsung and Sony. Other companies like Pioneer, Toshiba, Visio, and Panasonic also have a considerable market share, but Samsung and Sony lead the way in sales due to excellent picture and competitive pricing. Comparing Sony and Samsung, Samsung seems to provide more vivid colors while Sony's colors are more natural and less vivid. As far as which TV is better, it's a matter of preference. I picked a Samsung because it was at a lower price-point than the Sony I wanted (Z-Line).
My next upgrade (52" 120hz) will probably be the same (based on prices/deals at the time). I would not hesitate to buy another Samsung.
From great on March 09 to rainbow stripes seven months later on Thanksgiving Weekend 09. Rainbow stripes on the right side show up within a few seconds of turning the TV on. Checked HDMI input from Receiver playing blue ray disc, on cable box directly, and on each of the HDMI inputs. No difference. Used different cable: still have stripes. Stripes are very sharp and clear and take up half the screen. Only half of the screen of the football games, NCIS, basketball games, House and any DVD/Blue ray disk is visible. Even unplugged set and plugged back in but to no effect.
Phone number for Toshiba customer support is all voice response, no real people, even though the recording says they are available 24 hours, 7 days a week. Based on my zip code, I was referred to a local contracted TV repair place. I'll see if anything happens on 4 day weekend.
Until this episode, the TV was wonderful but I try to wait 9 months before rating a product.
UPDATE 1 week later:
HMO - Toshiba TV repair much the same. The local TV repair had to call Toshiba Technical Services and go over the problem. If Toshiba Technical Services agrees, they send an ok to proceed with repair. Local TV repair orders the part. In this case, the panel (glass picture screen to me) was bad and had to be ordered. Estimated time: 1 more week.
UPDATE Returned repaired after almost 4 weeks
Picture excellent. Back to normal. Hope this lasts long time.
I may be a little biased, as this is my first HDTV, but the 52 inch Sharp Aquos really works for me. I was a little concerned that the picture would look strange at certain angles, like my Samsung monitor does, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Even at rather extreme angles the Aquos looks just fine, the only real difference is that the colors become weaker and not quite as strong. The sound is decent, certainly not home theater good, but the best I've ever heard from a TV. The Aquos has plenty of inputs, both in the back of the TV and on the right hand side. From the TV's menu, there's choices of 7 different inputs. Adjusting the picture is easy enough, with the exception of the "backlight" adjustment on the picture, which is confusing simply because I don't know what it does.
All and all, a great TV, and Amazon has it for the best price I've seen.
Bought this TV plus Sony BDV-T11 (Blu-ray Home Theater). Now, I can put a DVD in, and it turns on TV and starts playing onscreen! No menu surfing. Very nice! Easy out-of-the-box setup. As other reviewers mentioned...Turn off light sensor!!! Sony should disable this feature. It really does make the picture quality look really bad. Thanks to previous reviewers for mentioning this. You save me hours of grief.
My main concern was reliability. I heard about most reliable being the three "S":
-Sony
-Samsung
-Sharp
I saw too many posts mentioning Sharp power supply failures. Same for some Panasonic plasmas from last 2-3 years. Also heard some complaints about some of the Samsung models. Much less with this Sony model. So, I decided to buy it. I hope this post helps. God bless you and good luck!
I bought this T.V. to replace an old 20" CRT screen I'd had for the past 6-7 years. I wanted something that could handle HD since I had a PS3 I was hooking up to it. The T.V. itself looks very sleek but does have that black plastic that makes it a dust magnet. The t.v. works great but I did have to tweak the speakers out of the box since it sounded a little "tinny" at first. Overall it's not an issue. It gets 720p and 1080i channels just fine and I think some of my 1080p PS3 games actually come in at 1080p, but I could be wrong. I'm not sure if it's my local cable company, but the channels on this t.v. tend to "rearrange" themselves occasionally so expecting a station or network to be at the same channel number every time doesn't really happen. It occasionally will program back in a channel previously programmed out. That's been my experience with it, anyway. Your mileage may vary. Overall a great t.v. for the price.
